So said my planned travel companions for our trip to Cambodia.
We recently found out that we will not be able to travel there this fall. There have been some recent changes in laws and political nuances having to do with NPOs and helping organizations.
Of course we are heartbroken, but we know that there is something out there waiting for us.
That's right, your friendly local midwife is heading to Cambodia! I've raised enough money for my tickets, just by selling stuff in a yard sale! I had a few lovely donations from former clients, which was so appreciated. An added bonus is that I will be taking my apprentice Angela along with my mom and brother.
We'll be working for and with a wonderful new NPO called Sisters in Health providing free basic health care, maternity care, reproductive health care, and wellness care for local families. We will also be doing some grunt work, as they will likely still be building their clinic space.
There's times when the universe just clonks you over the head with opportunities to be of service to the world at large, and this seems to be one of those times for me. It is and always has been on my heart to volunteer abroad with people who may not have the chance for kind, compassionate care. I can't wait to get in there and get to it!

We are over the moon excited to be offering our services to the women and families of the Polson area and beyond. We now have a second office at 11 3rd Ave West right in downtown Polson, and are taking new clients. It's so important to us to provide care for women in Montana, and adding Polson to our list of served areas just made so much sense, since there isn't a midwife presence there, and women are traveling to Kalispell or Missoula for their prenatal care. It's not much of a drive for Fern Creek- Heather is just a 35 minute drive, and Carrie 55 minutes.
